My literature classes are designed to do more than check off a reading list—they encourage students to deeply connect with classic and modern works while honing essential writing skills, building a meaningful connection to the written word. Through classic and contemporary fiction, short stories, and poetry, students discover how literature reflects the world around them and invites them to explore big ideas, cultural perspectives, and their own beliefs. We’ll explore the literary and historical significance of each work, diving into the author’s background and cultural context.
We’ll study each book or poetry collection over several weeks with lectures, presentations, read-aloud sessions, and discussions. Classes often include creative, interactive fun—think afternoon tea while reading Jane Austen or gumbo while exploring Mark Twain!
