In these classes, Elementary and Middle School students build a strong foundation for their reading and writing journey!
Designed for grades 3–7, these classes explore classic children’s literature, develop creative writing skills, and include essential grammar instruction.

Scope

  • Booklists are discussed with parents to avoid repeats of what students have already read.

  • Students must purchase their own books (printed, digital, or audio versions). I will provide poetry selections.

  • Students complete homework (short answers or essays) and take a test for each work, with a final exam or project at the end. A Vocabulary Log will help them learn and discuss new words.

  • Each class includes both reading and composition components.

Regarding Eighth-Grade Students -Reporter At Large may count as a full-year High School credit.

Class Fee/Length/School Year - All English and Composition classes are $25 per 90-minute class. A full-year class runs for 30 classes.

This dynamic class is designed to equip young students with essential writing techniques, enabling them to craft engaging short stories, informative news reports, introspective journal entries, and compelling opinion pieces, all at a no-pressure beginner level.
Basic grammar skills will also be introduced.

CLASSIC CHILDREN’S LITERATURE WITH
WRITING AND GRAMMAR
Immerse your student in the wonders of classic children's literature while strengthening their foundational writing and grammar skills. This class, tailored for middle and elementary students, offers age-appropriate literature for each level. Students will embark on a literary journey through the stories and poetry of renowned authors such as E.B. White, A.A. Milne, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Perrault, and more. Engaging activities tied to each story will enrich the learning experience, inspiring students to create captivating writing projects based on the literature they explore.

REPORTER AT LARGE
Get ready to unleash the journalistic talents of young students! In this engaging program, students will step into the shoes of a journalist, learning to craft compelling news stories using the vital Who, What, When, Where, and How structure. Students will learn methods of conducting interviews and doing research. From creating gripping newspaper articles to insightful reviews and persuasive opinion essays, the possibilities are endless!

GRAMMAR
Grammar is beautiful! Grammar makes writing work.
Mastering grammar is the key to successful writing. This class will equip students with essential grammar skills. We will cover parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation. These skills are crucial for students' future writing endeavors. It is suitable for both middle and high school students.
Students will create and proof their own writing assignments as well as learn to correct existing pieces.
